When to plant tulips

Tulips are bulbous plants belonging to the ‘Lilaceae’ family that, in most of their species, have an upward-facing flower made up of closed petals simulating the shape of an inverted heart. Thanks to their great beauty and the intensity of the color of their flowers, they are ideal for decorating your garden or terrace and, in addition, they are quite easy to grow and care for. In the following article, we will tell you specifically when to plant tulips.

Steps to follow:

Step: 1

Tulips germinate in fairly upright flowers and elongated stems and bloom from early to mid-spring. That is why the best time to plant them is at the end of autumn. Likewise, in warmer regions, they can begin to be planted from the beginning of April to the end of June.

Step: 2

Planting tulips is a fairly simple process that must be carried out by sowing their bulbs, either in the garden soil or in pots. It is important to keep the bulbs in a cool place and not expose them directly to the sun until they are to be planted.

Step: 3

These plants resist cold and low temperatures well, but they are also extra sensitive to heat. Therefore, it will be convenient to take into account the temperature of the soil when planting tulips. The ideal temperature is between 13 and 16 ÂșC, maintaining at all times a high level of humidity that does not exceed, yes, 85% and ensuring that they do not remain waterlogged, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. Locations with partial shade and little direct sunlight are preferable.

Step: 4

You should know that before planting tulips it is necessary to prepare the soil, which must be well fluffy. In the case of sowing the bulbs in the garden, they must be buried with the tip upwards at a depth of 15 cm and with a minimum distance of 10 cm between the different bulbs. Instead, the pots should be large enough to give the tulips plenty of room, and the bulbs can be planted on top of 2 inches of soil and continue to cover until you reach the edge.

Step: 5

Once you have planted the tulips, it is important that you know some recommendations for their care, so they will grow healthy and beautiful. Consult the article How to care for tulips and follow all the advice.
