The Scabra variety of helianthoides Heliopsis “Summer Night” is normally located in the territories of New Jersey and Arkansas.

It is a plant characterized by a rather lapse deportment; the use of this element in the garden creates a pleasant effect of disorder.

The main feature of the plant is its not be able to support himself independently , because of whatleans on other nearby elements ; not being at all invasive, and not having almost an autonomous form, this plant creates spots of color able to leave intact the spaces and the surrounding geometries , giving only a touch of personalization and color.

Normally this plant reaches about one meter high and 60 centimeters in width, but because of the very particular gait is possible that the much greater size appear.

As of the end of July you can observe the bloom : it is simple yellow flowers similar to daisies , the approximate size of 8 cm. These colorful flowers are supported by branched stems that can grow stronger only in part, the most obvious feature is the color: dark burgundy.

The leaves have green top and bottom burgundy, have lanceolate shape, and are rather rough to the touch.

If you want to get a continuous flowering and flourishing we suggest you remove the flowers once they wither: cut above the first pair of leaves, this will favor the formation of new shoots ready to bloom again.

Few cures for Heliopsis helianthoides, you will get informal results

The heliopsis is a plant that does not need a lot of care , but it is important to provide a fresh and fertile soil . If you want to ensure that they remain intact the characteristics colors of many flowers and leaves is necessary to use good potting soil and manure is mature during the autumn season and during the spring .

As for the watering you can proceed in abundance , as long as it ensuresan optimal drainage of the ground , because even in this case we must absolutely avoid stagnation of water. Therefore we recommend to carry 4 or 5 wetting weekly during the warmer months, and then gradually decline with the arrival of the cold season .

The ideal place for the planting of this plant is in full sun , partial shade accepts a position only where the temperatures remain mild for most of the year.

Usually it manages to survive without problems at temperatures well below zero , but if it has a plot of clayey and heavy plant could have many difficulties to overcome the winter season. The main problem is in fact the stagnant water, favored by low temperatures, which inevitably affects the root system .

As we have already mentioned the salient characteristic of this herb is not to have its own form, but rather to have the characteristic of complement in contact with other specimens . It is a plant particularly suitable to adorn edgings informal and flower beds .

It is also possible to practice cultivation in pots , but you must provide a suitable container (since the plant produces abundant vegetation). It is advisable to repot every two or three years ; each fall and spring we recommend a cleaning, so as to ensure good vegetative growth.

In the event of a particularly harsh winter this plant completely lose the aerial part . In late autumn you can collect the seeds and continue planting in seedbeds. The multiplication can also be made by division of clumps, in this case you should choose the most vigorous elements.

And ‘possible to combine this unusual perennial with a wide range of grasses , such as Stipa tenuifolia, the Pennisetum or Eragrostis Trichodes. A good combination is also with the washing , especially because it begins to bloom in the period in which It collects the aroma.

Helianthus ‘Lemon Queen’

The varieties of Helianthus has as its main feature a late bloomer ; in English-speaking countries it is known as the ” perennial sunflower “, since it has a flowering period of about 40 days : it starts slowly, only a few peeps here and there, and reached the pinnacle by giving a real unforgettable chromatic show. In the first part of their life flowers have a beautiful bright color, then gradually darken with the passage of time.

The maximum height reached by this plant is about 160 cm , is perfect as a backdrop for borders, or to create colored dividing curtains. And ‘possible to contain the development of this exemplary cimandolo in June.

The flowers of this particular sunflower have the typical shape of the head, are simple and lemon yellow color, good to counter intense colors. A good match is also obtained by combining the plant with sedum, with dahlias in bright colors and with the late asters .

Thanks to erect stems of the Helianthus’ Lemon Queen ” is also perfect as a cut flower .

A plant that adapts easily and multiplies in the spring

This particular variety of Helianthus grows well if placed in full sun, also it needs to be washed regularly, so as to keep always moist and fresh substrate .

As regards the type of soil it is a decidedly adaptable specimen and the easy cultivation . In addition to feed the soil on a regular basis it is important to avoid an excess of nitrogen : this substance causes therapid growth of poor tissue in mechanical elements, thus causing subsequent fold apex.

The two main methods for multiplying the Heliantus are planting and dividing the bush .

To make the division of the head it must be carried out in the spring months. Once the separation is necessary to immediately store planted the obtained portions. Remember that the necessary distance between a head and the other shall not be less than a meter.

For sowing the seeds you collect from mature flower heads and keep them in a paper bag . In the spring they can be planted directly into the ground. Once you obtained the young plants remember to fertilize regularly especially for the first year; in the second year (when the plants are now sufficiently strengthened), always during the spring months, you can proceed with the final planting.
