Tips to Puppy Proof Your Home

Jeffrey Dawson December 23, 2021 Reviews Leave a Comment

Are you considering growing your family by four furry feet? Bringing a puppy home can bring you and your family a lot of joy. While we love our furry family members, they can also be a lot of work, especially if you’re a first-time puppy parent who isn’t prepared for the mischief your pup can get into. Before you bring your puppy home, complete these puppy-proofing tasks.

Remove Hazards

If you have a lot of plants around your home, you may have to put them out of reach or remove them from your home altogether. Some plants are toxic to pets, and a mischievous puppy won’t be able to discern between what’s safe and what isn’t. Other common household hazards that can be dangerous to puppies include cleaning products, small objects that can be ingested, and certain foods.

Prevent Escapes

Your puppy has boundless energy, and if cooped up it could lead to destruction or worse, breakouts. If your dog’s breed is prone to running, you may want to consider investing in a high-quality fence. A fence will keep your puppy safely in your backyard while giving him a place to run. Search for a fencing contractor near me Forest Lake Il to find a professional who will be able to build a quality area to keep your puppy out of harm’s way while he’s outside.

Keep them Busy

A bored puppy is a destructive puppy. Unless you want your furniture, cabinets, and doorways to become chew toys, you should invest in items that will keep him busy. Visit your local pet store to find puppy-safe toys and activities that will stimulate his mind and keep him out of trouble.

Bringing your new puppy home should be a fun, exciting time. If you take time to puppy-proof your home to keep your new family member safe, you’ll be able to enjoy the experience without the added worry that something will go wrong.
