Zinnia

The zinnia is an interesting flower to brighten up the garden. There are different varieties of this flower, there are more than twenty, and differ both as the barrel size (which can be low or high in the case of the giant zinnia), both as petal color ranging from orange to red, to lilac and to creamy white, with even two-tone particularly ornamental cultivars. The leaves are lance-shaped and rather intense green. As a flower is very easy to grow, being a very rustic plant, of the Asteraceae family. Depending on the variety can be either annual or perennial plant.

Climate and irrigation: This flower loves the warmth and sunny areas with good ventilation, while stand the cold. The water need is reduced and we must avoid the stagnation of water, bearer of fungal diseases, it is a plant to be watered only when the soil is particularly dry. It grows well in soils rich in humus and organic matter, non-acidic.

Sowing: The zinnia can be sown in seedbeds in March, and then transplant it the following month. The distance between the plants depends on the variety: the dwarf zinnia wants a 20 cm space between the plants, for the giant zinnia you can double the size. Knowing the size of the plant is useful to minimize the gaps, forming the prettiest flower beds.

Flowering: Colorful zinnia flowers begin to appear in June, and then hold out until the arrival of autumn real. The zinnia flowers have no scent.

Cultivation: It is a flower that asks little nothing: some weeding and watering rare enough in the development of zinnia. It can prune to encourage flowering containing the leaves and removing the faded flowers.

Why in the garden: The zinnia is a very convenient flower to grow because undemanding and rustic. Its colors make it great as an ornamental plant, both in the garden flower beds and in pots on the balcony. In the vegetable garden and aesthetic value to cheer with its colors and create an atmosphere of flowery nature it is good because it attracts pollinating insects. This flower also really like the butterflies, which will start showing up if planted.
