6 tips for designing Japanese gardens

Japanese gardens

The Japanese Garden is a traditional garden, which creates ideal landscapes in miniature, often in a highly abstract and stylized way. The gardens of the emperors and nobles were designed for recreation and aesthetic pleasure, while the Buddhist temples gardens were designed for contemplation and mediation.

The gardens in this style have a special charm: the plants cleverly cut, the stones placed in a perfect order, gravel circles, biologic and bridges offer a harmonious atmosphere and tranquility, offering a natural and artistic look the same time.

Plants and flowers

The most important elements of Japanese gardens are the plants and flowers. The use of rhododendrons, bamboo bushes, cherry trees and azaleas are what give the real Japanese touch. Our advice: do not overdo it with the varieties of plants; wild groves with many different shrubs are not suited to the Japanese style.

Remember the privacy

In the Japanese garden focal points are peace and serenity. Let us remember then, that even though we do not live in the city center, privacy is very important. A few weeks ago we talked of the garden fences, also including wooden ones that blend well with the oriental style.

Beware of Color

In an oriental garden hard you happen to stumble upon the multicolored flowers. You can use of colors beyond the green is virtually nonexistent. Ferns, grasses, mosses, shrubs and evergreen bonsai are realizing the perfect Zen garden. This does not say that the flowers cannot be used, just remember not to plant too many different colors, but to choose one of several shades.

The gravel and the rake

In Zen garden water is represented by rivers gravel whose motion collides with the emergence from the soil of large stones from disordered forms of course, in order to symbolize the dynamism of the forms of nature, let us remember that the layer of gravel should have a thickness of at least five centimeters.

A sea of flowers

Although green is the favorite color for the Zen gardens, you can enter plants that give a touch of extra color, such as cherry blossoms, particularly used in the Japanese tradition. In fact, this type of flowers in spring offers a unique natural spectacle. Other flowers perfectly in rhyme with oriental style are the rhododendrons, azaleas and lilies.

The water

Despite the gravel it takes the place, the water is an essential element in the Zen garden. What is a bio-pond, a fountain or a stream, the important thing is that its noise will be able to rock in your relaxation.
