How to care for ferns

Ferns are one of the oldest plants on the planet and currently serve as decoration in many homes. There is a wide variety of ferns and they can come from different places, although they are always warm and humid areas at the same time. Fern care is not extensive and not too specific, but if we want our plants to grow healthy and strong. We must pay them the necessary attention.

Steps to follow:

Step: 1

First of all, it should be noted that the ferns come mostly from areas with a temperate and humid climate, which is why it will be necessary to keep them in an environment with high humidity.

Step: 2

In this way, watering the ferns should be frequent to keep the substrate or soil moist, but always avoiding that the water remains stagnant and the roots of the ferns can then rot. However, when it comes to caring for ferns in winter, you will have to reduce watering and it may even be enough to water them once a week.

Step: 3

Likewise, during the summer it will be necessary to spray the leaves of our ferns with a spray or vaporizer, to keep them fresh and humid, as well as to use a porous substrate.

Step: 4

On the other hand, it will also be important to place the ferns in an appropriate place so that they receive light, but indirectly. We should not place them where the sun hits directly and, in addition, it will be good to place them in a ventilated place but without current.

Step: 5

It will not be necessary to prune the ferns, we will only have to remove those twigs that are yellow or those that have broken.

Step: 6

As for fertilizers, we can add liquid fertilizer for green plants dissolved in the irrigation water to our ferns every 15 days during the growing season.

Step: 7

As the ferns grow, it will be convenient to transplant them to a larger pot or pot so that they develop properly. The best time to do them will be in spring and you can see here how to transplant indoor plants.
