Rosemary is an aromatic herb that has a large number of beneficial properties. It is widely used in the kitchen to add aroma and flavor to numerous dishes, as well as being used as an insect repellent or flavoring for cupboards and drawers. This aromatic plant can be easily planted at home, either in pots or as a shrub in the garden. It needs very little care and adapts to all kinds of climates, although it prefers the hottest and driest ones. If you also want to plant it at home and be able to pick it up when you need it, don’t miss this article on how to plant rosemary.

You will need to:

  •  Rosemary cuttings or seeds
  •  Pots or pots
  •  Substratum
  •  Shovel
  •  Water

Steps to follow:

Step: 1

Take rosemary cuttings about 8 centimeters, which is recommended to be cut at the beginning of summer. In case you do not have a plant from which to take rosemary stems, you can also plant rosemary seeds; then, it will be better to do it in spring.

Step: 2

Fill a pot or pot with a substrate for plants, trying to make it a rather stony or calcareous soil, since rosemary adapts very well to any soil but does not tolerate clayey soils that accumulate water very well.

Step: 3

Likewise, it will be very important to have a good drainage system to prevent the water from being puddled. And it is that Rosemary is a plant with a dry climate and, therefore, it does not require too much water to grow properly.

Step: 4

Place the rosemary pot in a place where it receives abundant sunlight for most hours of the day. You can place the pots on the terrace, a window, etc. to make sure it gets the sun; You can also plant rosemary as a shrub in the garden, as this aromatic plant adapts to all conditions. You should plant it in an area where the sun shines most of the day.

Step: 5

As for the watering of rosemary, you should not add water too often, since it prefers dry soil because it is a shrub typical of hot and harsh climates. Make sure it never gets waterlogged because the roots will rot and your rosemary plant will wither.

Step: 6

We can collect its stems and leaves to cook or give it any other use, throughout the year once the plant has grown enough.

We recommend this other article to learn more about how to care for rosemary. You can also discover here a way to take advantage of rosemary: how to set the house with aromatic herbs or consult how to grow thyme, another of the most popular herbs.

Tips

Don’t worry about fertilizing your rosemary plant, it doesn’t need it.
